What does The Balconier do, exactly?
The Balconier transforms balconies, gardens and ‘geveltuintjes’ into vibrant, green spaces you can truly enjoy. Big or small: together we’ll explore possibilities.
My outdoor space is tiny. Is it still worth it?
Absolutely! Small spaces often have so much potential. With smart design choices and the right plants, even a few square metres can become a green oasis. While also expanding your enjoyment of your indoor space while looking out.
But what if I don’t have a green thumb?
Then this service is perfect for you! I’m an expert in low-effort outdoor spaces, I’ll create a design that’s easy to maintain. I would also recommend the monthly or seasonal subscription for garden maintenance, making sure you keep your hands dirt free!
And what if I do have a green thumb?
Then you’ll get a design that invites you to get your hands dirty, without becoming complicated. You bring the enthusiasm; I provide the structure by implementing the garden design and plant choices.
How much does it all cost?
That really depends. Upkeep and maintenance is €46 (ex. VAT) per hour. Designing and installation is completely dependent on the space and size. A first meeting is always free of charge!
Where do you start when designing a space?
Always with one simple question: what is the purpose of your outdoor space? Do you want a place to relax, bring more nature into the city, support biodiversity, or grow something edible? From there, I design a green haven that suits both you and the natural conditions of your space.
Where do the plants come from?
I work with organic growers who care about biodiversity. That way, your outdoor space is not only beautiful, but also a welcoming place for bees, butterflies and other urban wildlife.
Do you work alone or with a team?
That depends on the project. I often work independently, but when needed I collaborate with other skilled professionals — such as hard scaping specialists — to bring your green plans to life.

Do you really arrive by bike?
Yes - especially for upkeep! With my bike and trailer, I happily come to greenify your part of the city. Sustainable, practical and very much in the spirit of The Balconier.
